Ruth Harvey
Ruth was raised a Baptist missionary kid—mostly in Brazil, but also in South Africa, Mozambique, and Portugal. Before entering professional Christian ministry, she was a language teacher, a doula, a childbirth educator, and an apprentice midwife.
Ruth holds a Master of Arts in Spiritual Direction from Weston Jesuit School of Theology, and a Master of Divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological School and has ministerial standing through The American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts. She has participated in the training of spiritual directors at the Center for Religious Development and the Office of Spiritual Formation of the Jesuit Collaborative. She has a private spiritual direction and supervision practice, which, since the Covid-19 pandemic, she conducts via Zoom. In 2019, she and her husband, Lynn Hoefgen, were appointed for a two-year term as Special Assistants for Angola for American Baptist International Ministries. Ruth retired from the pastorate of First Baptist Church of Belmont in Belmont, MA in 2016.
